I joined CCRP in August 2018 to transition from physical therapy to a gym program. I had just completed two months of physical therapy that was enabling me to recover from a severe chronic pain syndrome I had for more than 25 years. I was very fortunate to be treated with a sports medicine physical therapy approach that allowed me to get stronger and significantly reduced my pain level. My physical therapist recommended that I find a gym where I could continue to do strength training exercises to maintain and build upon my physical therapy program. Committed to do everything I could to further recover, and not trusting myself to do strength training on my own without hurting myself, I started working with Danny Murphy twice a week.
At the beginning, we focused on translating the exercises I had done at physical therapy to ones I could do at CCRP. After a few weeks, I was ready to move beyond my physical therapy regimen. I experienced the benefits of strength training twice a week and wanted to maximize them, so after a couple months, I added a third day of strength training each week on my own that was based on the framework and exercises I was doing with Danny. Danny had me do exercises that expanded upon my foundation from physical therapy and that, during the next several months, progressed in variety and challenge level. With Danny’s help, I learned to perform a large number of exercises and over time was able to lift/push/pull heavier weights. Each session was designed as a balanced, full body strengthening circuit. In parallel with the strength training, I started running again after not being able to for more than a quarter century. Danny took into account what I had done and was planning to do for my runs so he could ensure that our sessions together complemented the running.
Danny does a great job explaining each exercise, challenging me while minimizing injury, and designing interesting, effective workouts. I always look forward to our sessions and I have to say that personal training is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. Under Danny’s guidance, I’ve done body weight exercises and used the TRX, dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, medicine balls, and more. An example of my results from training with Danny is that I have recently deadlifted 5 times more weight than when we started. More importantly, I’ve been able to work full time with no need to take time off due to my chronic pain syndrome. I’ve come a long way and am excited to continue to work with Danny to learn and further improve.
Thank you, Danny and CCRP!
